Want to shuffle and moan in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade?
The time is coming for Kansas City’s St. Patrick’s Parade and The Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger will be marching!
I NEED YOU!!! The parade is on March 17th at 11am. Our check in time will be 9:30am. I will be attending a parade meeting the week before getting the specific details on our meeting area. Accurate head count is crucial for this event, so please only submit names of people who are available to march. If you need to cancel your attendance in the parade, please contact me in advance to inform me, so I can take your name off the security checklist.
TO MARCH IN THE PARADE:
A non-perishable food donation of any size is required the day of the parade. We will have a float where we will put bags of food for donation, I would LOVE to fill up the float with food to donate! We will announce where the food will go at the Parade.
We need to have an Irish theme, which, for zombies, can be anything Irish. Show up in your best leprechaun zombie outfit! Or a fancy Irish Kilt! Or get a nice green speedo and paint your body green and bloody! Be creative, Be Irish, Be Green AND MOST IMPORTANTLY Be a Zombie! (please keep in mind this is a family event, any offensive costumes will be turned away).
The Parade has strict rules and safety guidelines. No throwing anything into the crowd. No alcohol. No stopping unless the parade line is stopped. Children need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Follow all instructions from Parade staff, security and police.
To get on the entry list for the parade, please email the following information to peigeturner@kczombiewalk.org (MAKE SURE your subject line reads ‘PARADE ENTRY’):
1) Full name of person representing your group
2) Total number of people in your group
3) Full name and age of all people in your group
4) Contact information (phone number and address)
I CAN’T WAIT TO MARCH WITH YOU!!!

We survived the End of the World!
Hello Zombie Walkers! I see you have successfully made it through the End of the World!
2013 has started and let me tell you, this year is going to be great!
First off, The Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger is going full on non-profit. I hope within the year, we will reach full tax-exempt status!
That being said, we are doing everything in our power to get us as much recognition as
possible!
The more people we reach out to (great zombie visual), the more people we can help.
One of the ways we want to get recognition is a Kansas City favorite, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade!! It will be March 17th and our meet time will be 9:30am. The parade begins at 11am. Once I hear back from the Parade Commission, I will have more details on where we are to meet and entry requirements for security.
I NEED YOUR BODY! I can have up to 100 people march…er…shuffle along with us through the parade route. This parade will also meet our mission of helping people in need. To participate in the parade, we are asking for a non-perishable food donation of any size. The Parade requires that we have an Irish theme. So be creative (please, nothing offensive). Accurate head count is crucial for parade security, so we will be creating some sort of form for you to submit with a total number of people attending. A facebook event will not be created to keep headcounts accurate.
We will let you know when the entry form is posted!
WALK DATES!
Our first walk of 2013 will be June 7th! MARK YOUR CALANDERS! Details to come.

Post-Walk Letter From The Queen Herself
Just a few, uh… thousand, or so, post-Walk words from your Zombie Queen.
I’ve had a few days to relax and take it all in. The pictures are pouring in, allowing me to see how amazing you all looked. The costumes were out of this world!
I want to start off my long list of ‘Thank You’s’ to my crew. Before I agreed to take this walk over, I knew I would not be able to do it alone. I called a few of my friends who are as ‘off the wall’ as I am when it comes to doing crazy adventure things. I had four very specific people in mind. And what a lucky girl I am. They all agreed to help me make this walk a success.
I will start with Bryant Scott. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better partner in this endeavor. You have gone above and beyond with getting this project set up. If I couldn’t handle it … you did it. The amount of work you took on was overwhelming and you did it without hesitation. I also feel like you can speak ‘Peige.’ There were times where the words coming out of my mouth were of some other nonexistent language. Your mad skills picked apart my rants and rolled with it. You talked sense into me when I had none. You created such a strong foundation for me to build on. Thank you, Bryant. I couldn’t ask for a better person at my side!
Bethanie Woods: You inspire me everyday that I know you. To the naked eye, people see you have such passion in the things you do and the life you live. In reality, this is Bethanie. The passion you have is 100% natural and part of your being. It’s like you don’t even have to try, it just pours out of your fingertips. I could not do this without your support. You encouraged me when I was down. You kept my head above water. And most importantly, you were always there when I needed answers. You never offered me an ‘I don’t know.’ Thank you, Bethanie. I couldn’t do it without your support.
Chad Ruddle: If you look in the dictionary for the word ‘genuine,’ you would see a picture of Chad. Most likely the picture would be of him in his Kevlar vest, bloody jacket and a bandana. Chad Ruddle, ‘what you see is what you get,’ and what I see is a person who will always have my back. Through ups and downs of life the friendship I share with Chad is unbreakable. You bring me up when I am down. You have always made me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to, so I strive to be the person you see. Through all of this you have provided me with a calming sense of success. I couldn’t do this without your ability to ease my mind.
Rikk Wolf: Never once have you turned away from one of my thousand million questions. The support, encouragement and knowledge you offered made my job that much easier. Knowing that I have such an amazing and talented human being at my side makes me jealous of myself for even knowing you. The passion you have for things that matter in this world is overwhelming. Your feet are firmly on the ground, and the words you offer should be etched in stone. You speak what is on your mind and the truth behind your words keep me moving forward. Thank you for your support, your words of encouragement, your talent and your friendship.
The Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger crew is probably the best bunch of people I could ask for. Hands down, my first walk was a success because of my crew!
Behind the scenes of any successful event, more than likely, you will find a mom! Karen Turner, who will forever be known as ‘Mombie’ in this KC Zombie Walk world, was at my side through it all. Like most moms, she knew when I was hungry and would show up with fried chicken to ease my mind — and my grumbling belly. She magically had change in her pocket when I had none. She was excited about every idea I could come up with and encouraged me to move forward with them. She picked up slack when I ran out of energy. She fed me Chinese food. (Apparently food makes me a better person … it’s like I’m an alcoholic, subbing alcohol for delicious food-stuffs … and she knows this better than most.) It’s like she could read my mind! I could be on my couch overwhelmed with the 87 projects I started and I would get a text, ‘Want Bo-Lings?’ UM, YES! HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS! Without Mombie, behind the scenes at the walk would be a total disaster. Thank you, Mom, I love you!
Jamie King: Gurl! You started a craze! The people in this city are so passionate towards a cause. These same people are even more passionate towards Halloween! What a great crowd you formed! You started something that this city loves. Without your dedication to the cause, this would not exist. You chose me to take over something very important to you, and I am honored to accept it. I won’t let you down!
Every human being on the planet has ‘a person.’ My person is Sonya Andrews. My person could care less about the popularity of zombies, the threat of a zombie apocalypse, — really, even just the Zed word. But I wanted to say thank you, Sonya, for always listening to me ramble on and on about a subject you could care less about. You always offered encouragement, excitement and support for all of my ideas. Thank you for your support, and I promise to give you a break from the zombie talk!!!
Wrangling several hundred people can be a challenge. This challenge seemed effortless due to the work of my security crew. What a crew! I honestly did not know what to expect when I set up the idea of Zombie Walk Security and Zombie Secret Service. Not one car was blocked from getting from one place to another. Not one intersection was overly crowded with walkers. Not one business was overrun with bloody people. Not one civilian was genuinely concerned for their safety or lives! Just thinking of my Security crew gives me goose bumps. Such great people. You all worked so hard and made my day very easy! I did not worry once about rules being broken or safety being compromised. Chad Ruddle, Jordan Johnson, Alex Pasayes, Adam Windsor, William McCullah, Kat McCullah, Sean Loux, Finn Geddis, Jason Geddis, Jesse Elliot, Dylan Thomas and the guy who’s business card I lost…dang it!: SERIOUSLY! BEST SECURITY CREW EVER! Not to mention, they all looked BAD A$$! When it comes down to the actual zombie apocalypse, I know to take them all out first! Because I want them on MY side!
To the people who volunteered their time! THANK YOU! Leah Bond, Richard Turner, Earline Beebe, Marcia Scott and to all the additional hands from people who just are awesome enough to step in to make this walk THAT MUCH BETTER! Thank you for helping make this walk a huge success!
The photographers are just outta-control amazing! Brad Trump, you have documented this event since the beginning! You are a key element to this event. I am happy to say ‘Oh, don’t worry, Brad will be there!’
P.S. Linden photography came in and took some amazingly EPIC pictures this go around! I want to thank Bethanie for finding this group of amazing talent! Thank you P. S. Linden for being part of my first walk. I hope to work with you again in the future!
To all of the walkers taking photos, this day and age definitely has its advantages! We can document our lives. Your photos offer up laughs, giggles and wonderful points of view for everyone else to enjoy. Thank you all for sharing your photos with us. It’s always great finding a candid picture of yourself!
One of the reasons I believe this walk was such an amazing creative spectacle is because of the prizes people could win. Walkers brought their A-game to win some of the coolest stuff from our local artists and businesses!
Lex Deville, Patrick Hart and Stacia Kelley are three local artists and business owners who went above and beyond! Not only did you donate such great gifts, but the support you showed me was overwhelming! Thank you from the bottom of my rotten heart for the support you showed me and this walk. You guys showed such interest in this cause, I hope to continue to work with you up to and beyond the actual zombie apocalypse!
Also, I want to extend a huge thank you to the people who supported us and donated to our prize giveaway, including Vintage Stock , Wicked Immaturity, Laura Pierce Francis, U.S. Toy and Allied-THA! Also, RevolveKC for helping us make the Zombie Apocalypse Survival Bicycle a HUGE SUCCESS!
Brandon Stanley with Worlds of Fun, YOU are a world of fun! I hope we can work together in the future! To your crew of amazing looking humans, you rule! I know so many people at Worlds of Fun who have supported this walk! Thank you all so much for being supportive of our cause.
Robin Kreus with Filling Station Coffee thank you for making us LESS zombie with your coffee. Some of us definitely came back to life after a cup-o-joe!
Shannon Wolf with Rock Candy Boutique, you provided us with a perfect gathering place. Somewhere warm where our rotting brains can come together and strategize! A last minute Zombie Headquarters, if you will!
Incognito Cinema Warriors XP, I am proud to say that your crew of robots make us look good! Thank you for all of your support and please, when I approach your theater, don’t take me out. I won’t bite you if you don’t head-shot me! Deal?!
Guardian Angels Catholic Church: You have been great to work with, even when I got bogged down and would forget to return calls! I hope we fed you well! It has been a pleasure working to bring you a little relief for the people you help. I hope this walk and all the people who participated did your pantry good!
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, MY WALKERS!
Every single one of you blew my mind. Your creativity by itself is a sight! From first-time walkers, to the people who have been walking with this organization from the beginning, this would not be possible without you. You are the reason this walk exists. You are the reason the pictures are amazing. You are the reason local artists and businesses step forward to be part of this. You are the reason people come together to make this a success. You — yes, you — have provided me with the most amazing memories and stories a person could ask for. Never in my wildest dreams would I have a group of people as amazing as you. I am terrible at remembering names, but I promise you, I will never forget your rotting fleshy faces. I thanked a lot of people in this letter. But the most important of all is you. If you weren’t there, I wouldn’t have a crew, a cause, a walk. Without you, this would not be possible. I hope to have all my walkers at my side when the sh*t hits the fan! You are an amazing crowd. I thank you on behalf of myself, my crew and Guardian Angels for a successful event.
In conclusion, the Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger is moving forward. We can only grow from here. I hope one day we will walk for fun and the need to help people in need won’t exist. But until the day comes when families can feed their children and every human has a roof over their head and food on the table, the Kansas City Zombie Walk for Hunger will be there, feeding the people who live around us, in our very own neighborhoods, creating a community of people who look our for each other, creating a story for everyone who sees us. You all have become my family. Without even realizing it, every single one of you has entered the homes of families, the bellies of veterans and the hearts of children. Food creates comfort, health and happiness. The five items YOU brought will be utilized by people who do not have the ability to provide for themselves or their families for whatever reason. Every person that exists has a struggle, and thanks to you, these people can find their worries fade away for the moments they take with a plate of food.
Thank you everyone! You have done more than you can imagine for more people than you even dreamed.
Signed proudly,
Peige Turner,
your Zombie Queen.
